SIMON O’CONNOR

Simon has worked in roles at the intersection of economics, finance, sustainability and environment in Australia, the UK and for global clients for almost 20 years. Simon’s work has seen him consulting to industry, working as an investment analyst, as well as working within the NGO sector, before joining RIAA in the role of CEO.
RIAA is an industry body that represents 240 members managing over $9 trillion in assets globally, working to see more capital flowing into sustainable assets and enterprises.
Previously, Simon worked within a leading Australian environmental NGO for five years, developing and driving a work program on New Economics, advocating for a smarter economy that’s cleaner, more productive and sustainable.
Simon also had a long involvement the public-interest economic consultancy, Economists at Large, as a senior economist and director, consulting to community groups and international NGOs often on a pro bono basis.
Simon worked in both the UK and Australia as a responsible investment analyst at Innovest (now MSCI) including assisting in the establishment of the Australian research team. Prior to this role, Simon consulted to major industrial clients across Australia on environmental and sustainability issues within the global insurance and risk business.
